First Congregational Church of Nantucket

There are two primary adult education programs: Adult Education Hour at 9:00 AM prior to the Sunday worship service and Bible Study on Fridays at 9:30 AM at the Steelman's home.

At the Adult Education Hour, we discuss current events from a Christian perspective, study the Bible, consider theological doctrines, and examine other religious traditions. Recent topics have included global climate change, Mormonism, when and why the Bible was written, and the theology of Fundamentalism.

At Bible Study, we examine closely books of the Bible alternating between the New Testament and the Hebrew Scriptures. We usually work on one chapter per week. The level of Biblical literacy among the group varies widely, but all levels find the sessions rewarding. Bill strives to acquaint the class with the latest in Biblical scholorship in a clearly understandable manner.
